Don't apply tap water, and alter the water every solar day.
Go along them in the fridge.

I put mine in an ice foam pail filled with tap h2o (never had issues with tap water), rinse the leeches every 2 to 4 days to get rid of all their poop(more than leeches = more than rinsing frequency), replace the h2o and put back in the refrigerator.

Default thank you

Cheers guys. They dont have to be fed annihilation?
I am from the Reddish Deer area and I must have looked at 20 unlike tubs of leeches earlier I found a container of healthy ones. Between Canadian Tire and the Burnt Lake store. Not sure if I am right or incorrect here, simply I normally look for a container of leeches where the majority of them are stuck onto the side of the tub...Which to me says they're alive and healthy... Floating effectually-Latched on to nothing says dead leech to me... am I right or wrong here?

They must be kept in the refrigerator as common cold as possible, thats the trick. The colder the meliorate, they go dormant. I alter the water out with the garden hose and rinse them out a few times.

Seriously? Tap Water...?

Wow, that's pretty good. I've used Tap H2o vs Spring Water and noticed a HUGE divergence in between the ii. My LEECHES did Mode better when NOT in the 'Tap Water'...

I also put them at the very Back of the fridge and they seem to last quite a long time.

I put them in the aquarium with a bubbler. (Wife won't let me keep them in the fridge)

All the enquiry I could find said that they were scavengers of expressionless organic material, not, as mentioned, blood suckers. I probably put 30 or so in the tank nearly a month agone and pulled the last of them out this past weekend for use at Milk River Ridge. They all seemed healthy. Didn't assist with take hold of rate though, information technology was even so slow.

A cold fridge, change water oft, you can use tap h2o only permit it stand overnight to get rid of chlorine starting time. The more leaches the sooner y'all have to modify the water. You don't take to feed them, they will stay over winter if you go along the water clean. Oh, and remove any expressionless ones.

Lamentable, I alive on an acreage so my tap water isn't really tap h2o. It comes out of the taps but information technology's really well water, so no chlorine, flouride, etc. - just atomic number 26 and a lot of other nasty sh!t.

I keep them about the back of the fridge where it is colder, simply brand sure it'southward non below freezing. If the water is actually cold they won't be moving effectually much and may expect "dead". I use De-Ionized h2o, rinse and change it out nigh once a week... important to remove the dead ones.

I think leeches are pretty hardy for the about part. I just leave mine in the fridge & that's it, no water changes or anything & they normally terminal 2 weeks or more! The water just gets this ugly white gooey stuff floating around in information technology. NO Icky JOKES WAYNE!!!

Although one of my kids has a nasty habit of cranking the refrigerator thermostat as low equally information technology will go & have ended up with leechsicles a few times haha!

All-time play a joke on I've ever heard was to put a few larger, crude stones in the lesser of the container so they tin "scrape" the slime off themselves. I tried this last summer and kept the same dozen leaches in my refrigerator for just over iii months, changed the water every other calendar week (plain erstwhile chlorinated tap water) and threw any dead or sickly looking ones out. The majority lasted just over 3 months before I forgot nearly them in the back of the fridge for a month and they finally died. Very resilient little things.

Why are you guys throwing away the dead leeches? What a waste product! I fry them up in butter - makes a groovy snack, yummmm. Haven't you lot guys seen the episode of Muddied Jobs with Mike Rowe when he goes to the leech farm? They eat leeches down southward similar it's french chips.

Fresh leaches into a frying pan with some butter, I could see. I've never tried, simply I'1000 not ruling it out completely.

Old, expressionless, smelly leaches that died from who knows what, no thanks.
